Created for the annual Inktober challenge, this illustration tells the story of a mermaid explorer who stumbles upon a mysterious underwater map—one that eerily mirrors the tattoo etched across her back. Is it coincidence, destiny, or the beginning of her next great adventure?

This piece was an experiment in digital inkwork, crafted to evoke the tactile charm of traditional media. I challenged myself to use flat blacks, simple linework, and patterned textures to build depth and contrast within a mostly monochrome palette—proving that even minimal elements can carry rich visual storytelling.
