Children’s illustration: Lunch Time! - Character Design

These characters were created in response to an illustration requested as part of the ItsMe Agency mentorship program, where I was challenged to depict a charming everyday moment through a children's illustration. The brief called for a lively, heartwarming scene of parents calling their children down from a treehouse for lunch.
To me, character design is more than just color choices and silhouettes—it’s about storytelling through the smallest details. One of my favorite aspects of this piece was weaving in genetic traits that tie the characters together: similar facial structures, inherited hair texture, and matching nose shapes. Quiet yet meaningful elements that reinforce their connection as a family.
Beyond their genetics, I also used a cohesive color palette to unify the characters visually, ensuring they felt like they belonged in the same world while still allowing their unique personalities to shine.
