This illustration was created in response to a Character Design Monthly challenge with the prompt “Adventuring Axolotl.” After exploring various character concepts, I developed a young axolotl setting out on their very first adventure. The scene captures a quiet moment of distraction and wonder as they pause in a lush jungle, captivated by a butterfly drifting past.

Rather than focusing on action or peril, I wanted this piece to evoke the emotional tone of curiosity and gentle awe, highlighting the beauty of small moments within a larger journey. The character’s design balances innocence and determination, while the environment supports a sense of discovery and softness. This piece reflects my interest in character-driven storytelling and emotional pacing within whimsical, nature-inspired settings.
