Everything will be alright
It’s a sunny morning. When I woke up everything was white with frost, even the sky. But as I swallowed hot gulps of tea the sun came out and made everything glitter. What a beautiful day. It’s incredible what a few minutes of sitting down and simply enjoying a sunrise can change our outlook on life.
Following a recommendation from a friend, I’ve been reading Kilomètre Zéro by Maud Ankaoua. It’s a little run-of-the-mill stuff so far but sometimes it’s good to be reminded to “stop and smell the roses”. It’s good to ask ourselves: are we here by choice or are we forced into something we don’t want? We often realise that all the things we find annoying or difficult, we actually chose to do them. Struggling with your work? Well, you chose your job. Annoying husband? You married him! Annoying children? You chose to have them. (Most of the time anyway. And really, you know you love them). Feeling overwhelmed by paperwork about buying and renovating a house? Well, you decided to buy a house! What do you expect?!
If you’re not there by choice, then maybe it’s time to make a change. But if you are where you are by choice, maybe it’s time to actually enjoy it.
We often forget to focus on the good things. It’s often the good things that lead us to making decisions. But nothing is ever completely simple (otherwise what fun would it be?). Things take work. But instead of focusing on the struggles, why not try to enjoy the ride? If you’re stressed or feeling pressured, it just means you care. And that’s great! It means you’re doing something you love! There’s nothing better than that.
So take a minute, sip on your cup of tea, and enjoy the morning sun. Everything will be alright.
Love.
