Our Blue Treasure – A Book Full of Wonder, Water, and Wow!
Our Blue Treasure is a children’s book I had the pleasure of illustrating —a playful and powerful picture book that helps children discover just how important our oceans and waters are — and how they can become everyday heroes for the planet!
Developed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our ocean and waters, and how our daily actions are connected to their health — and to our own.
Created especially for curious kids aged 6 to 10 (but perfect for younger ones with a little help), this book makes big environmental ideas simple, fun, and exciting. Through colorful pages, hands-on challenges, and lots of stickers, children learn how their small actions — like saving water or picking up litter — can make a big splash for the health of our oceans.
🧠 Backed by real science (thanks to the BlueMissionMed consortium!) and packed with creative energy, Our Blue Treasure took over a year to bring to life — from research and story crafting to joyful illustrations.
The development of the book was a collaborative effort that took over a year, starting with scientific research and concept development, followed by writing, illustration, and design. Each element of the content was reviewed and validated by the BlueMissionMed consortium to ensure both scientific accuracy and pedagogical value.
The book has already been printed in nine languages — including English, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Dutch, Maltese, Turkish, French, and Arabic — and is also available in an interactive online format with playful digital elements like drag-and-drop stickers.
This book was written by Susanna Albertini- Selenia Marinelli and Valentina Vavassori and produced by FVA – New Media Research as part of the BlueMissionMed project,funded by the European Union, and part of the broader effort of the EU Mission to restore our ocean and waters.
