Shane McGowan

Hi, I'm an Australian illustrator residing in Melbourne. I lived in London where I concentrated mainly on editorial, design and advertsing commissions. Some of my clients included The New York Times, The Observer,The Guardian, Royal Mail, The Evening Standard, Radio Times and Time Out amonst many others.I have been illustrating more and more picture books which is endlessly fun. I am still a big kid at heart and love creating colourful worlds that small but enquiring minds can explore voraciously. 

I have had over 40 picture books published for Scholastic, Penguin/Random House, Little Bee, New Frontier, Allen and Unwin, Macmillan and Templar Books.

My work has been recognised by American Illustration, 3X3 Picture Book Show, Illustrators Australia, European Illustration, Lurzer's Archive, Childrens Book Council of Australia, Speech Pathology Australia and Images (UK)

I'm happy to work on big or small projects, actually I'm just happy o keep on working and be having fun doing it. When I'm not illustrating I can be found in my studio drawing and painting, drinking tea and eating gluten free cake. I love going for long walks around one of Melbourne's many parks and gardens, and bushwalking. I love anything Vintage, especially cars and furniture and often incorporate them into my images.I aso think cats are the best form of relaxation and consider the cheetah as my spirit animal, is there a more elegant and beautiful creature?
