This is the second of two major projects I completed in 2025, "The Purple Shifter" by Dwight Peace (aka Dwight Salaam) and his partner Dave Fadden, based on their paperback novel, "Westside Predators". The story is about an indigenous Native American who is imbued with shape shifting powers after he is merged with his pet chameleon, when the two of them are struck by a freak lightening bolt. Camille Smoke decides to use his powers for good as "The Purple Shifter", after he is framed for a murder he didn't committ , and is befriended by an NYC detective, whom he saves from an assault by gang members. This is the first comic book/graphic novel job I've gotten via my ChildrensIllustrators.com portfolio and my Craig's List ads ( Dwight checked out both before contacting me to illustrate his story). I penciled and inked this 24-page (plus cover and model splash page) comic book by hand, then scanned the pages in and digitally colored them in PhotoShop. Then I imported those colored pages into an Adobe Illustrator file and added the word balloons and sound effects, as well as providing dialogue and editing assistance, before formatting the book, and helping Mr. Salaam get the book uploaded to his Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account.
