Cari McKee
Children's Illustrator
Who or what made you want to become an illustrator?
I've always had a passion for art since I was a child, and it's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I found joy in drawing and expressing myself creatively. Additionally, my experience working with children through babysitting and summer camps has reinforced my love for nurturing young minds and sparking their imagination.
Discovering the world of book illustration was a turning point for me. I realized that my cartoon art style could be a perfect fit for children's books, allowing me to combine my artistic talents with my desire to create meaningful experiences for kids through storytelling and visual imagery.
The idea of being able to share my art with others, particularly with children, resonated deeply with me. I've always believed in the power of art to inspire, entertain, and educate, and becoming an illustrator felt like a natural extension of that belief. Through illustration, I could not only showcase my creativity but also contribute to the enchanting world of children's literature, where imagination knows no bounds.
Ultimately, my passion for art, coupled with my love for working with children and the prospect of bringing stories to life through illustration, motivated me to pursue a career as an illustrator. It's a journey that excites me, and I look forward to the opportunity to share my art with young readers and help ignite their imaginations through the pages of children's books.
