Word Play is the second book I've illustrated for prolific author Tricia Gardella (who's been a great supporter of illustration artists - thanks Tricia). The book tells a story of Joe, a young boy who attends school for the first time and gets frustrated that he's not being taught how to read that he wanders off in search of someone else who can teach him. 

I could kind of relate to this story because as a child, I too had a habit of wandering off. At the age of 18 months old, I apparently sneaked out of my home on night to go and play in the park across the road. The first the poor old babysitter knew of it was when the police knocked on the door with me in tow! That's just one instance of many - ahem! But I have grown up since then, honest!
