Pittsburgh Mural Art
I was recently commissioned to create a 4-ft x 6-ft piece of wall art featuring the beautiful city of Pittsburgh, for the newly redesigned visitation rooms in multiple county buildings throughout the Southwestern Pennsylvania region. This is where children and their families meet for supervised visits during difficult periods of separation, so they wanted bright and cheerful artwork.
This colorful Pittsburgh cityscape includes fun “hidden” iconic imagery throughout—like a Heinz Ketchup bottle, a Primanti’s sandwich, and of course a pickle! 3 additional variations were also created; one with 5 hidden Mr. Rogers, one with 5 hidden Kennywood signs, and one with 5 hidden “Frankie the Cat”—a beloved pet of one of CYF employees who the kids at the facility know and love.
I created the art full scale in Photoshop after pencil sketches were approved. The final work was printed digitally on a matte acrylic surface, which allows for the children to be able to fully touch and interact with this installation.
