Did you know that there are lots of flora-related celebrations in the month of May? We’ve put together some interesting facts and awesome illustrations about them below!
May Day
Before May 1st became International Workers’ Day, it was known as May Day - a day used to celebrate the coming of spring. May Day celebrations date back to ancient Greek and Roman times where they celebrate crop fertility. It involved a lot of flowers such as making flower garlands and using flowers to decorate trees!

Love a Tree Day
Every May 16th, give some love to our trusty natural oxygen providers! You can show your appreciation by planting a tree, having a picnic under a tree, or even just looking at one lovingly from your window.

National Asparagus Day
Not many people like it, but asparagus-lovers have May 24th to spread the love for this veggie! Do you have a go-to asparagus recipe?
Water a Flower Day
If you aren’t part of the plant mom/plant dad movement in the past year, you can show your appreciation for blooms every May 30th! Whether it’s the neighbor’s or one you pass by the street, water a flower on this day. 😄🌼

From late March to early May in Japan, when cherry blossoms or plum blossoms bloom, people gather in parks with friends or family, lay out a mat, set out their packed lunch, and simply enjoy these fleeting flowers. This is called hanami (flower viewing).
