Illustrating in the Space Between a Rock and a Cute Face for DH&Co
At the end of last year I had the pleasure of illustrating my first children’s book with DH&Co.
It tells the charming story of a little rock with a wild imagination and some high hopes as he sits on the work bench in the craftsman workshop comparing himself to all of the big, expensive statues.
This was an absolute joy to work on from start to finish with lots of unique character development opportunities and a huge amount of freedom to bring my own style and interpretation to the story.
The double page spread, above, was a real highlight and shows our little rock feeling rather insignificant and forgotten about in the corner. From the moment I first read the manuscript this image was planted firmly in my head. It was a real joy to then make it a reality.
This is a brilliant little story that was later animated as part of a short story-time video and I am incredibly grateful to DH&Co for bringing me on board to illustrate it.
