April Hartmann has illustrated a new book, "Sometimes it's Hard to be a Mommy". Title treatments, cover design (front, back and spine), file prep for book jackets and interior layout, copyright, barcode and ISBN consulting were also provided by Hartmann for this commissioned project.

Written by Rebekah Garofalo, this charming story follows a day in the life of a dedicated and loving mom.  It's a heartfelt story that helps children understand that mommies have big emotions too, but even when it's tough, they always love their children "more than pie." What makes this project even more special is that Rebekah is a mom of a special needs child. While that's not part of the book's storyline, it adds a deeper context to the work. Motherhood is already a journey full of challenges, and Rebekah's experience reminds us that every mother's story is unique. It also underscores the importance of compassion and kindness, as we never truly know the struggles others are going through.
