April Hartmann recently illustrated and designed the picture book "Bee-coming a Family", which introduces the concept of embryo adoption in a simple, age-appropriate way.  Written by Casey and Omar Lockerbie, the story helps families share and celebrate their unique beginnings. The project became even more meaningful when the Lockerbies welcomed their newest family member just as the book was being completed—a true full-circle moment.

For this commissioned project, Hartmann provided full-service support, including illustration, title treatments, cover design (front, back, and spine), interior layout, and print-ready file preparation. She also guided the authors through copyright, barcode, and ISBN consulting, supporting them throughout the self-publishing process.
