Alison Jay’s ‘The Nutcracker’ art showcased in Ghibli Museum, exhibiton, Tokyo
We are extremely excited to announce a brand new exhibition in Tokyo, featuring thewonderful work of our illustrator, Alison Jay. With a special invitation from Hayao Miyazaki, the world famous Japanese artist, animator and director, responsible for acclaimed animated films such as 'Spirited Away', Alison has loaned her stunning illustrations to the Ghibli Museum's new exhibit, based on the story of The Nutcracker.Hayao Miyazaki has admired her work for a long time, and upon seeing her version of The Nutcracker, published by Dial books, he simply had to collaborate with her - what an honour! Her work is showcased in its own room in the gallery, dedicated to introducing children to the classic tale. The attention to detail is wonderful, with recreations of Alison’s drawings shown in the wallpaper design, and a three dimensional model of the banquet table featured in the book. Curated by Miyazaki himself, and in collaboration with the Tokuma Memorial Cultural Foundation for Animation, this is a must see exhibit and runs from 31st May 2014 to May 2015. Alison is thrilled with the exhibit and was able to attend the grand opening and press day in Tokyo, giving her insight into the work and her many inspirations.
More information regarding the exhibit can be found here on their web site, and booking in advance is essential: http://www.ghibli-museum.jp/en/
