Hi! I’m Julissa. My goal as a children’s illustrator is to teach, inspire, and enrich the imagination. I believe it’s extremely important to portray multicultural scenes in my work to represent a real world. I love to create positive, bright, and fun illustrations. When I am illustrating, I get lost in my art and I want the reader to experience that feeling as well.
A little about me: I'm Cuban American, born and raised in Miami. Although I do not live there anymore, I love going back to visit family and eat lots of Cuban food… Especially the flan!
It was my grandfather who was a storyteller and artists that inspired me from a very young age to become a visual storyteller. As a young girl he would tell my sister and me stories and then draw out the scene on a paper (or napkin). I was always so blown away. It was like a candle light that was lit inside of me very early on that’s never gone out.
I absolutly LOVE all things whimsy and cute, and just get lost in my illustrations.
I’m a wife and mother of a spunky and creative girl, who inspires me every day. I currently work out of my home studio in Austin, Texas.
If you have a project that fits my style, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!
