Bird migration is incredible, and as a family we've recently welcomed a pair of swallows who've travelled all the way from Africa and found a home in a special swallow nest that I put up after they arrived in our garden. They literally moved in the next day, which we're thrilled about. Living on the south-west coast of Wales we get thousands of birds flying past our coasline heading either south for the winter or north for the summer. We even have local people who volunteer their time to count them each year, and I wanted to honour them by creating this illustration of a teenage girl watching the skuas flying past. The lighhouse is based on the one at Strumble Head, which is a popular sight for migrating birds and pods of dolphins and seals.
